Low‑Cost Counseling
In early September of 2026, our clinic will start offering low‑cost mental health services provided by doctoral‑level clinicians in training, who are closely supervised by licensed professionals.
To utilize our low-cost self‑pay rates, clients must choose to opt out of using insurance for these services. This option can provide greater affordability, flexibility, and privacy while still receiving high‑quality, evidence‑based care.
If you have questions about self‑pay services or whether opting out of insurance is right for you, our team is happy to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a low-cost session cost? Therapy sessions will be $50/hour.
Do the low-cost mental health providers have a specialty? Yes, they will all be able to do Parent Child Interaction Therapy. They will also take other clients as well.
Is there a waitlist for low-cost sessions? No, not at the moment. Doctoral level clinicians in training will have availability starting at the beginning of September. Currently, we are accepting clients to add to our waitlist for them to start sessions in early September.
What does “opting out of insurance” mean?
Opting out of insurance means you are choosing not to bill your health insurance for services received at our clinic. Instead, you agree to pay the reduced self‑pay rate directly. You will need to sign a form officially agreeing to opt out of services.
Why is opting out of insurance required for self‑pay services?
Because services are provided at a reduced rate by doctoral clinicians in training, we offer these services exclusively on a self‑pay basis. Insurance cannot be billed for these services.
Can I use my insurance later if I start with self‑pay?
No, you cannot use your insurance for treatment with our doctoral students. If you were to transfer to a fully licensed clinician for a different treatment, you could potentially start using your insurance. However, you will not be allowed to go back and use insurance for any previous sessions with doctoral students.
Will opting out of insurance affect my insurance benefits elsewhere?
No. Choosing not to use insurance for services at our clinic does not affect your ability to use insurance for healthcare services elsewhere.
Will I receive a receipt or superbill to submit to insurance?
No. Because clients formally opt out of insurance for these services, we do not provide superbills or documentation intended for insurance reimbursement.
Does opting out of insurance change the quality of care I receive?
No. All services will continue to be provided by doctoral‑level clinicians in training and are closely supervised by licensed doctoral level mental health professionals to ensure high‑quality, ethical, and evidence‑based care.
Is opting out of insurance related to privacy or confidentiality?
Some clients appreciate that self‑pay services limit the information shared with insurance providers. If you are not using your insurance, we do not share anything with your insurance company. Confidentiality remains a priority regardless of payment method.
Who can I contact if I have questions about opting out?
Our administrative team is happy to answer questions and help you decide whether self‑pay services are the right fit for you.
